Level – Are you advanced at Yoga or are you a beginner? If you are new to Yoga, chances are your classes and personal Yoga exercises will not be advanced enough to require special clothing. Yoga poses that are more difficult will require pants with more give and elasticity to allow you free range of motion to be able to move into the different positions with ease and agility. Depending on your level of skill, you should look at the fabric your yoga pants are made out of. Look for a pair that contains high percentages of spandex to give you the maximum amount of flexibility and stretch.
Frequency – Do you do Yoga daily? Ask yourself how often you plan on practicing Yoga. Will you be attending only one class per week or do you plan on doing Yoga poses every day? Before buying yoga pants, you should consider how often you will wear it. You may need to purchase more than one article of clothing so you don’t have to wash your clothes so frequently. If you find one particular pair of pants that seem to work well for you, you should consider buying two pair so you do not wear them out as fast. The more time you spend in your Yoga clothing, the more wear and tear they will endure. Evaluating how often you will practice Yoga is important.
Duration – How long do you practice Yoga for at one time? Another factor to consider when buying Yoga wear is the duration of your workouts. You need quality clothing that will not rip or tear with prolonged use. Also, if you think you will be sweating a lot, you may want to buy clothing that is constructed out of materials that will absorb moisture and dry out quickly, such as a cotton blend. The longer you work out, the more worn your pants will get, so you may also want to consider purchasing more than one pair if your workouts last for a long time.
Once you have determined what kind of pants you should purchase based on the level, frequency and duration of your workout, there are a few other factors you should consider. You should buy clothing that will be able to be coordinated with other items in your closet. Try to picture wearing your pants with several different tops. Buy a pair that will easily match with several other shirts. Also, you can save money by purchasing pants that can do double duty. Ask yourself if there is another activity you do that you could wear the pants for. Could they also work as running pants or pajamas? All of these questions will help you save money and buy a pair of Yoga pants that you’ll wear and love for years to come.
