Thinking about summer vacations is a great way to endure the long winter months of working at a desk all day. Once the time finally arrives to take off on a trip, you have a lot of work to do to make sure you are ready. The most important aspects of the trip are the finances and the location.
Location
Vacations are largely based on different locations. If you’re going camping you will need to decide if you want to stay in a tent, cabin or motor home. How far away do you like your vacations to be from you’re home? Most likely you have already decided where you want to go; now you may need to figure out if you want your vacations to be in a plane, car or a boat.
By weighing the costs with your budget, you will be able to know where you would like to go. By searching the Web you can find discounts on various vacations. If you have a small family, it is easier to book rooms and airplane trips. For larger families, car vacations may be more of a realistic picture. Beaches are relatively inexpensive as well; the most expensive part of the trip includes lodging, shopping and eating out. If you head for the mountains you can take even more inexpensive trips. In mountain vacations, your expenses are largely for the gas it takes to drive there and what food you purchase along the way. Horseback riding can add extra costs, or if you stay in a cabin or rent a motor home it can all add extra costs to your mountain vacations. By staying in you’re tent and using you’re supplies you already have, you can save a lot of money. Entertainment is cheap as well. Go for a swim in the lake or hike through the woods; these are great activities for the whole family. Resorts, ranches, rentable vacation homes and hotels are clearly more expensive vacations to take, but if you have the money, go for it!
Vacation Finances
If you are looking for ways to save money on vacations then this is the right section for you. If you are taking a car trip, pack lots of healthy snacks for your children. Or you could prepare bags for each family member with snacks for each day of the trip. This way it is divided evenly. Snacks you could include are apples, bananas, oranges, crackers, fruit snacks, carrots, celery, juice boxes, whole wheat bread and trail mix. This will cut down on the amount of money you spend eating out. If you dine out only one meal a day and eat cereal in the morning and sandwiches at dinner, go out to eat in the afternoon when you are most hungry for a cooked meal.
Before you go on vacations, search for information about what is available for free in the area you are vacationing. Museums, beaches, lakes and national parks are typically free or have small charges. By using these resources you can make your trip more educational, fun and entertaining, while saving your pocketbook from too many expenses. You can always plan one expensive activity and make sure everyone in the family agrees they want to participate in that activity.
Another way to come up with the finances for family vacations is to have the children come up with money to help with the vacation. They will appreciate the trip more knowing they helped to contribute to it and will be more careful with how the money is spent. Involve them on the costs of the vacations expenses. Planning out how much the family will need on food, lodging, gas and the extras for activities will help reduce costs. Let them help you find inexpensive places to explore in the vacations spots you are traveling to.
