The Perfect Getaway — Vacation Plans for You and Your Family

If you’ve ever tried to plan a family vacation that sits well with everyone in your family as well as your budget, you, like most people, have probably run into a few hitches. Here are some suggestions to help you find the vacation best suited to your needs.

Vacation time is usually the most pleasantly hectic time of the year for families, to say the least. Everyone in the family will most likely have a different idea of where to go and what to do for the vacation. You might have an annual vacation spot, such as a relative’s house or a well-know tourist attraction. But if you’re looking to do something new this year, here are some suggestions to make this year’s family vacation the best one yet.

First of all, it may be a good idea to conduct a family meeting to discuss your vacation. Find out how everyone would like to spend their time and try to plan accordingly. Many vacation resorts have a variety of activities, such as swimming and diving, spas and fine restaurants. Many vacation spots and hotels are also close to theme and amusements parks, so it won’t be difficult to find something for everyone. Be sure to have your family meeting in ample time to make reservations at whatever location the family chooses. You may also save money on your reservations for some hotels and airline tickets if you make arrangements far in advance.

Further budgetary plans for the vacation should be made around the same time you’re deciding where you want to go. Be aware of how much you can spend, and how you’ll be able to make the most of your money. Once you know how many days you want to be on vacation and how far away the location is, you can determine how much it will cost for the family to participate in at least one major activity together per day, meals for the family, transportation and miscellaneous items (i.e. disposable cameras, souvenirs) during your vacation. It would also help to prepare a schedule (as detailed as you can) of what your family will be doing each day you’re on vacation. This will help you to make the most of your time, and make the experience more enjoyable for everyone.

Start packing a few days in advance for the vacation as much as you possibly can. Make sure you have an idea of what the weather will be like, so you can dress accordingly. But, don’t forget to bring extra jackets and umbrellas, just in case. Packing in advance, except for last-minute items like toiletries, cuts down on the time it will take you to leave, and you can start enjoying your vacation even sooner.

If you plan on traveling by car during your vacation, be sure to have the car serviced at least the day before you plan to leave. It would also be a good idea to plan games or activities for you and your family while riding. This will keep everyone occupied and cut down on back-seat squabbles, especially if the trip is fairly long.

Be sure to take lots of pictures — perhaps you’ll want to put together a vacation photo album as a family when you return home. Stick to your schedule of fun as much as possible, but most importantly, relax! Take time to do the things you enjoy, and discover new pastimes. With careful planning and everyone’s input, your family is sure to have a vacation everyone will remember — fondly.
