Finding a Utah Real Estate School

Finding one of the many Utah real estate schools is the easy part. Making it through the school is a different story. These schools require several hours of education and many tests to graduate.

If you are at all interested in selling real estate in Utah, you will want to search for an approved Utah real estate school. Courses are required to become a registered trainee or appraiser, or if you want to get your general or residential certification. You will also need training to obtain your salesperson’s license, your associate broker’s license and your principal broker’s license. The required training is specific and differs depending on which license you wish to obtain, so make sure you know what classes you must take.

Registered trainee: Becoming a registered trainee requires 75 hours and does not result in a license, but it does allow you to work with a licensed appraiser.

Licensed appraiser: To become a licensed appraiser you need 90 hours of pre-license education and 2000 hours of experience in a one-year period.

General Certification: You will need 180 hours of education and 3000 hours of experience before you can receive your general certification. Those with general certification are qualified to appraise any type of property.

Residential Certification: Achieving residential certification is a stepping stone to general certification. It requires 120 hours of pre-license education and 2500 hours of experience.

Salesperson’s license: Real estate salespersons must complete 90 hours of classroom training prior to taking an exam.

Associate broker’s license: To obtaining an associate broker’s license, you must complete 120 hours of pre-exam training.

Principal broker’s license: Like the associate broker license, this license requires 120 hours of pre-exam training.

License Renewal: Most of the these careers also require completion of 28 hours of continuing real estate training each year from a licensed Utah real estate school. If you do not complete the continuing education courses, your license will not be renewed. If you are attending a Utah real estate school to obtain your license, you will want to get a list of what courses you need to take from the Utah Division of Real Estate. Don’t forget to renew your license on time — if you do you will have to complete the certification process all over again, including taking the continuing education classes and completing your exam.
