Donating to charity is not only helpful to others but can be fulfilling for you as well. You should always take the time to help others in need if you are able to. Now, there is a new way to help both yourself and others at the same time. By making a used car donation, you can provide a family in need with a mode of transportation. In addition, you can get rid of that car you never use that just sits in your driveway taking up space. Many charities have been in existence for more than 10 years helping find reliable cars for the needy. Several well-known charities have added car donations to their list of charitable donations. The American Diabetes Association, Easter Seals, United Way, and the American Lung Association are just some of the organizations that are helping find good cars for good people.
Who Will Receive a Car Donation?
There are many people that are in need of a car donation. However, there are certain factors that determine eligibility. Usually, a social service agency or employers have recommended the individual or family. These groups have already helped the individual locate work or help them get back on their feet. Some people are in need of medical assistance, are victims of a natural disaster, or are victims of domestic abuse. Some individuals are trying to take necessary steps to better themselves and their family. Usually, if a person is getting off government-assisted living, they will need a car to get to their new job. No matter who gets your donation, you can rest assured that the person you are helping will be grateful for your kindness.
What Can I Donate and How?
Any type of car can be accepted as a used car donation. Even if your car does not run anymore, many charities will still accept it. However, if your car is too old, some organizations may not accept it. Depending on the car, the charity may not be able to accept your car because they have costly professional towing companies pick up your car. If the value of your car is lower than the towing expense, the charity may not accept your car. A good way to determine the value of your car is to check the Kelly Blue Book and look up the total value of your car.
If your car is worth more than the towing expense, then you should contact the charity immediately. Most charities have a Web site where you can fill out an online donation form. Once the form is completed, it may take between 2-4 business days before they are able to pick up your car donation. Most charities can also pick up your car in any of the 50 states. Towing is not the only way to donate your car. You could drive your car to your local charity and drop it off. Just be sure to call them ahead of time to make sure you can do this.
Make sure that the charity you are using is non-profit. Some charities accepting car donations may be run by used car salespersons that will sell your car for profit. If you are using a charity you are unfamiliar with, do some research on the company before deciding to send them your used car donation.
