When dealing with a teen pregnancy, you should be aware that there are several options available to you. If you care about the life of your baby but cannot take care of him or her yourself, consider letting someone adopt your baby. It is the best option for the child, giving the baby a chance to grow up in a loving environment. You also have the chance to communicate with your child as he or she grows up.
Many babies are placed up for adoption because of teen pregnancy. To date, the United States has the highest teen pregnancy rate in the western world, according to statistics. It is nothing to be ashamed of; there are others like you that cannot raise their baby because they are so young. However, you need to understand that an abortion is not always the best solution. Adoption is a great alternative for teen mothers because the mother has a lot of control over the child’s future. Though you will not raise the child yourself, you do have the opportunity to choose the family that will adopt your baby. You also have the option to choose how often you will be able to talk to your child and vise versa. If you do not feel that constant contact will be something you want, you can choose not to speak to your child at all. You have the freedom to decide how much influence you will have on your baby’s life and not feel as if you have abandoned him or her.
Choosing to put your child up for adoption should not be thought of as a quick way out of a bad situation. Usually with a teen pregnancy, the mother is simple too young to take care of the child. Her parents may or may not be able to help her out. In many cases, the father of the child is unwilling to help as well. Deciding to use an adoption agency is actually a rather mature decision. You are giving your child the opportunity to live his or her life with great parents. Moreover, even though you were unable to take care of the child, others out there can. Many adoptive parents are unable to have their own child so adopting a child is a blessing.
Weigh all of your options before you decide on adoption though. This is not a process that can be reversed if you decide to keep the child. The laws on adoption are very strict and you lose your parental rights once you sign the official papers. Even if you change your mind once you have the child, the adoption is already official. The adoptive parents are your child’s new parents and you are the biological mother. Take the process very seriously and understand what you will be giving up if you decide on adoption. Raising a child can be a wonderful experience but, if you cannot afford to do so and will not have any help, adoption is a great alternative and will give your child the best life possible.
