Student travel insurance covers a number of things. For the most part, it covers any possible accidents that may occur on your trip. Whether you are traveling for spring break, to study abroad, or to fulfill school assignments, student travel insurance is worth looking into. It is primarily for instances where you may become ill while traveling overseas. Not every country has free health insurance. In fact, some countries have very expensive health coverage. Getting some sort of student travel insurance will help you to travel with ease.
Although you may have preexisting medical insurance, it is not really beneficial in comparison to student travel insurance. Private insurance does not cover the many accidents and illnesses that may occur while you are away. Student travel insurance will cover nearly anything, so long as it is not due to your negligence. It is nearly impossible for private insurance providers to list the countless illnesses or accidents that may occur in every country. There may also be geographical limitations and other factors that can prohibit coverage from your private medical insurance provider. This fact alone will cause added problems and frustrations. Student travel insurance is designed to cover unique problems that may arise on your international adventure.
One benefit of student travel insurance is the potential for discounts. There could be discounts on group insurance, car rentals, museums, and phone calls; teachers and students might also save money on travel and accommodations. But besides these monetary benefits, student travel insurance can protect you from accidents due to traveling and some of the deadly diseases that infest some countries. Your life could depend on obtaining student travel insurance. Though not all diseases are life threatening, if not treated, many can cause irreversible damage.
If you have never traveled out of the country, you are at risk of catching many diseases. Student travel insurance providers would suggest researching the country you are planning to visit so that you can have a general idea of what to expect. This is important because different countries have different diseases. Knowing the areas where diseases are rampant can give you a heads up, enabling you to be able to receive vaccinations (provided they are available) for a specific disease before it strikes. Malaria, Yellow Fever, Tuberculosis, and Hepatitis are some of the common diseases found overseas. Though there are cures for these diseases, many others may have no treatments.
One of the most popular travel insurance companies, Travel Guard, has comprehensive student travel insurance. Their student travel insurance, or Student Travel Guard, “provides you with medical and trip protection as well as 24-hour assistance to help you face any problems that may come up,” according to their Web site studenttravelguard.com. They also provide you with assistance against lost or stolen property and damage to your personal property. Although you do not necessarily have to be a student to purchase student travel insurance, Travel Guard does require that you be under the age of 29. For older students, they are included in the student travel insurance policies, but may have to show proof of enrollment. Some group insurance plans are available for those who do not qualify for student travel insurance.
