Becoming a real estate agent may be easier than you thought, and the career has many advantages. Your income potential is only limited by how much you put into the profession, and the creative freedom granted to real estate professionals means you can come up with your own ideas and strategies to increase business. If you would like a flexible work environment without a set routine, consider taking your state’s real estate exam. If you feel nervous at the thought of your pay varying from month to month, this might not be for you.
Real estate agents will be involved in a variety of types of sales, not just residential sales. Sales may include agricultural, industrial or commercial properties. As a real estate agent, you might be involved in leasing and managing office buildings or other properties. You will also be involved with appraising and evaluating properties, developing land and planning real estate investments.
If you become a real estate agent, you will probably work as an independent contractor. You will report to the broker who holds your license. You don’t have to have a college degree, but you should have graduated from high school, or obtained your GED. You will need to pass a pre-licensing course and a real estate exam before you begin your career. The pre-licensing course and real estate exam usually cost around $100, which is a lot cheaper than college courses in other fields.
When you study to take your exam, decide first whether you want to go for a sales agent’s license or a broker’s license. A sales agent will perform all the duties of a real estate agent, while working under a broker. If you earn a broker’s license, this will permit you to work independently. You will represent yourself and others. This license will also permit you to be the sponsor of others with licenses, and you can be the manager or owner of a real estate firm.
For your  real estate exam preparation, you can enroll in a school and take classes that will help you pass the test. You also have the option of taking online test preparation classes or tutorials. Some companies offer CD-ROMs to help prepare you for your state test. If you have the personality and the inclination to pursue a career in real estate, it will come as good news that the means of getting started are within easy reach. Begin preparing for your real estate exam today, and you will be on your way to a new career as a real estate professional.
