A national collection agency is a dirty word to those of us who don’t run a business or company. But try to see it from the business point of view. What if someone owed you money yet they refused to pay up? What would you do? Well, if you’re a kid, you would get your big brother or sister to have a chat with the culprit. This act is similar to what a national collection agencywould do. If you run a business, do you have time to track down and call every customer who owes you money? No, but a national collection agencydoes.
A collection agency springs into action when a customer is delinquent with their bill(s). If the customer doesn’t get the message from bill mailings, the calls will begin. Sometimes the calls and the bill mailings proceed at the same time. It may seem like the agency is pestering you, but they are simply doing their job. It is their job to track down debtors, so they will call any time of day. So, if you think that not answering your phone at 5 p.m. will do the trick, think again. The calls will continue until the debt is paid
When the national Do Not Call List was founded, many people rejoiced. Customer service reps would no longer try to sell unwanted merchandise or services over the phone. But I hope you didn’t think that your creditors were included on this list. They are excluded because you owe a debt.
In addition to a national collection agency, there are many other collection agencies that would be willing to help a business get its money back. If you are a business and sick of delinquent payers, you need to do your homework. First, you need to broaden your horizons. Consider an independent agency to help you with this problem. Try to find agencies that have ties with national collections organizations or the reliable Better Business Bureau. The next thing you need to do is investigate potential agencies. Consult a lawyer about your choice in agencies. Once you’ve settled on agencies, ask each of them many questions. Discuss their success rate (how many times were they able to retain the money?) and overall tactics when asking for your money back.
There are also quite a few agencies willing to test the waters online as well. One Web site states that if you simply can’t choose which agency use, divide your delinquent bills evenly and send them to each agency. Whoever produces the better results shall have you as a client.
If you are someone who owes money to a company, don’t slam the phone down when a debt is trying to be collected. If you have the financial means, try to set up an easy payment plan with the agency. If you do decide to do this, your credit will be back in good shape.
Depending on who you are, a collection agency can either be a nuisance or a big help. No matter who you side with, you have to admit that sometimes their persistence pays off.
