Before you begin a real estate career, you must meet Michigan’s realtor licensing standards.
If you want to become a real estate broker, you will need to have proof of completion of 90 hours of approved instruction, including nine hours of civil rights law and equal opportunity in housing. If you already have a law degree then this automatically earns you 60 clock hours, and six hours of both civil rights law and equal opportunity in housing. In order to prove your education, you must produce completion certificates, transcripts, or other official verification from the course provider. The 90 clock hours are in addition to any hours you have accumulated while studying for a salesperson license.
If you want to become a real estate salesperson, then you need to have proof of 40 hours of an approved real estate fundamentals course, prior to taking the exam. In addition to the 40 hours of classroom instruction, in fundamentals of real estate, the course must also include four hours of civil rights law and equal opportunity in housing.
When deciding which of the Michigan real estate schools is right for you, it is important to complete a comprehensive search of each institution. Make sure the school you choose measures up to national standards. Find out how the school differs from others – what are the benefits and drawbacks of their courses? Most importantly, you should find a school convenient for you. Convenience means more than location. The school has to have the right learning facilities, teachers you feel comfortable with and an atmosphere conducive to learning.
If you have decided real estate is the career for you, make sure to chose a school that meets your needs. The first step is choosing from the many Michigan real estate schools, but that is only the beginning. You will need to develop perseverance to survive in this competitive market, and study on a continuous basis in order to keep up with the current trends of the market. Your attitude should be a positive and resourceful one, as real estate brokers and salespeople often have to think on their feet. Most of all, you need to be a person with imitative who is willing to tackle any task for your clients.
