Long Distance Phone Calling Options

Long distance phone options can be confusing. Today, there are more options than there were years ago. Read on to see different options you have when looking for the best way to call long distance.

Phone bills can get very expensive. Without even realizing it, one can be on the phone with someone for hours when it only felt like minutes; time can fly like that, and it happens more often than people may like. This is especially bad when one gets their phone bill to see that phone call cost them a ridiculous amount of money, and there is nothing they can say to make it go away. Once the bill comes that is usually it; you talked that long and you have to pay. No arguments.

Can these costs only be decreased if one stops making phone calls? No. Some of the options one has when it comes to getting the best rate for long distance phone calls include a regular long distance phone land line, calling cards, and cell phones.

Long Distance Phone Plans

Long distance plans are best for those who frequently make long distance calls. Often, these plans will be better for those who may go over their allotted minutes on cell phone plans. Rates can vary as much as a few cents per minute, depending on the company being used. When looking for a plan, one should make sure to do some research into which plan will save them the most money in the long run. Another option one can use with their land line without signing up for a long distance plan is using long distance calling numbers. These are numbers one can dial before the destination number to get a lower rate on the phone call.

Cell Phones

Cell phones seem to become more and more popular with each passing year. Cell phones can also offer very good plans for long distance. Some offer unlimited long distance with the plan. In addition, many cell phone companies end up giving you the phone either really cheap or for free with the purchase of certain plans. However, one of the drawbacks could be minutes. On some plans, one may not get that many minutes and the fee for extra minutes can be more than extra minutes on a long distance phone plan for a land line.

Calling Cards

Calling cards are plastic cards that look similar to a credit card that you can buy from many different types of stores; they come with certain pre-paid minutes on them. One can buy these cards in many different amounts of minutes whether it is only a little amount of time of a few hundred minutes. One pays a flat fee for this card to begin and then calls the number on the back and enters a code after which he or she will be told how much time is left on his or her card; then they may dial the number they wish. The cards are okay for international calls and other occasional calls, but if you call long distance frequently, they may not be the best option for that person economically. Yet for the occasional infrequent call, they are probably the best option.
