Like every profession, real estate has certain requirements that must be met before someone can be awarded an official realtor’s license. Each state also has its own specific requirements. One of the main requirements in the state of Kansas is the official realtor’s exam, which when passed will allow one to legally practice real estate in the state.
One way in which many people choose to prepare for this rigorous exam is by attending classes at one of the many Kansas real estate schools. Such classes cover topics you would find on the official exam, such as:
- Real Estate Law
- Real Estate Math
- State Policy
- Contract Issues
- Agency and Representation
- Finance
- Valuation and Market Analysis
- Other state-specific issues
Kansas real estate schools are located across the state and schedule classes at various times to allow the most convenience, especially for people who currently work full time and are looking to switch careers or gain knowledge for another career. Schools are located in major cities as well as smaller towns. Contacting the Kansas Real Estate Commission or even a local real estate agency is one of the best ways to find out current available Kansas real estate school listings because many Internet listings are outdated. There is an official process all applicants must follow in order to request commission approval of a certain course, so be sure you find out all the specific details before begining into a course.
The main resource for those looking into obtaining a realtor’s license or attending a real estate school is the Kansas Real Estate Commission. This, the governing body for Kansas real estate, oversees the distribution of realtor’s licenses and therefore can best advise potential realtors as to what they should be knowledgeable in and what topics are discussed on the official state exam. The commission requires applicants for the exam to present a certificate of some pre-licensure education, either principles of real estate (for salespeople) or a broker pre-license course (for brokers).
After passing the state exam, all realtors are required to complete post-license education, consisting of 30 hours of coursework. Also, realtors are required to complete 12 hours of coursework every two years in order to keep their license current. All these classes are available at state-approved Kansas real estate schools.
Other Options
For those people who do not have time in their schedules to regularly attend real estate classes, there are a number of home-study courses available on CD-Rom or by textbook that allow flexibility of study time. Home-study courses are approved by the state of Kansas; however, be sure your specific course is approved by contacting the Kansas Real Estate Commission. Finding out that your course is not recognized by the Commission after you have already completed it, is disappointing and requires you to invest even more time and money into your education.
The real estate exam, while challenging, can lead to a very rewarding career. Preparation for this exam can be made easier by completing coursework at one of Kansas’ many real estate schools.
