All About Elliptical Machines

By now, most of you are familiar with elliptical machines. If not, think of breeding a standard cross-country ski machine with a stair climber, treadmill, and stationary bicycle. Voila! You now have an elliptical machine. Many rave about the machine’s great influence on their workout. They cannot believe the machine’s great results.

Elliptical machines are the relatively new kid on the block when it comes to fitness trainers. Okay, we love our treadmills, but they can get a little boring sometimes.

The machine makes sure that your boredom factor is very low. The best thing about elliptical machines is the ability to accommodate every one, regardless of fitness level.

Lets lose weight!

The machine offers a low-impact, cardiovascular workout in the lower body. Ellipticals are designed to glide as if you were running. It’s a great machine because it works out various parts of the body simultaneously, including the arms. These are the types to look for when you invest in your machine. It should be noted, however, that some of these machines do not offer a “full-body” or cross-country workout.

Elliptical machines allow the user to enjoy a weight-bearing workout, similar to running, hiking, or skiing. Your feet remain glued to the pedals so there is little risk of injury on these machines! The best (and sometimes more costly) machines allow the user to change the setting or the incline in order to strengthen resistance. The forward motion help get your glutes into shape, while the backward motion tightens your hamstrings.

According to Advancedfitness.com, ellipticals are a great option for overweight individuals because tests show that this group tends to generate more energy than the average user. This could mean that loss in body fat may be easier to obtain for this group.

According to healthatoz.com, some manufacturers say that the average user can burn up to 720 calories, depending on the vigor and length of a given workout.

If you have allergies or any other type of condition that prevents you from exercising outdoors, an elliptical machine is a great option. It gives you the stride of a runner, while toning your muscles at the same time. In just 20 or 30 minutes, three days a week, you should get a fulfilling workout. Some experts still maintain that these machines should be used in conjunction with other training devices. In short, this machine should be a side dish, not the main course.

Types of elliptical machines

According to an article on the Sports Authority website, there are four types of these machines. They are:

Buying an elliptical machine

Gym models are superior in performance to home machines. But, if you insist on working out at home, you can purchase a machine that’s just as good. Before you shop for one, be aware of the pricing on these machines. Some can cost as much as $5,000! That’s what keeps many consumers in the gym. They cannot afford the high-end models. Some models cost as little as $500, but it may be a big price to pay for a machine that’s supposed to complement other workout devices. If you insist on buying an elliptical machine, you should ask as many questions about the machine as possible. Test the machine in the store (if allowed). If you have a great workout, you may consider purchasing right then and there.
