Elliptical fitness got its name from the way your body moves when you are doing this type of exercise. You achieve a smoother body motion because you are moving both your upper and lower body together. Your motions are not broken down to certain steps and movements. Your body is moving smoothly and together. You achieve circular movements that are more comfortable, increasing your desire to stay committed to your workout. The simultaneous movement can only be achieved on an elliptical trainer or elliptical, for short.
Ellipticals Provide Low Impact Workouts
Certain forms of exercise can be quite demanding on the body. Though they produce positive results, they require a lot of added pressure to your joints. High impact exercises such as aerobics, jogging, and running can be quite challenging and painful. If you have known problems with your knees, you cannot do these exercises safely. This is where the elliptical fitness can help. This form of exercise relieves the joints and provides low impact exercise. Though you are not hurting your joints, you are simulating the same motions of running or walking. You are achieving the cardio workout you need without the damaging moves. With running or jogging, it can be hard to stay on a regular schedule when it rains or gets too hot or cold.

Elliptical fitness also alleviates the problem of trying to use multiple machines to achieve both an upper and lower body workouts. Normally, if you were not doing some type of cardio workout, you would have to use several machines to workout. If you are going to a gym, you know about having to wait for your turn to use equipment. After wasting time waiting, you them have to do your workout with the pressure of others waiting behind you. Then you would have to do that all over again at the next machine. The ellipticals however, are designed to help you achieve a dual workout. You work your lower body by simulating running movements in smooth, fluid motions. For the upper body, you can use the handles to give your chest, arms, and back a good workout.

If you are a member of a gym, you can usually find elliptical machines there. With their rise in popularity, more and more gyms are providing their members with the opportunity to try elliptical fitness. If you would rather workout at home, many companies make at-home ellipticals. They usually do not take up much space and they are reasonably priced. Try looking for ellipticals machines online first just to get an idea about how many different ones are out there. Elliptical machines have also been showcased on several infomercials so look for them there as well. Make sure the machine you do select is well made. Some home machines do not have the quality of those made for gyms. A good indicator of a shoddy machine is the way it makes you feel. If you feel as if you are moving very choppy and you feel as though you are stumbling, then your machine is not well made. Ask a member of your gym staff or sports equipment store about the best models to purchase for home use.
