Okay, here’s the scenario: You want to go to college with all your heart, but there are a few reasons not to go. What if you’re a single parent? Do you have anyone who’ll baby-sit the kids? Do you have a demanding job? How can you work and go to school full time? This schedule could leave you tired, grouchy, and unable to spend time with your children. These are just two of the many reasons people use when asked why they don’t attend college.
Enter, distance learning.
The ability to get an education online is one of the best innovations of the late 20 th and early 21 st centuries. Finally, colleges, universities, and other educational institutions have realized that not everyone’s situation is exactly the same. Some simply don’t have enough time to go to a classroom full time or even part time. Online institutions enable you to “attend” class at any time. Of course, you have to turn in assignments and tests on selected days.
Getting an education online has many benefits, including the ability to be at two places at once. Say you’re on your lunch break at work. You can use this time to complete assignments and check for any correspondence from the professor. Obtaining an online education also instills a form of self-discipline. Because you don’t go to an actual classroom, it may be very hard to keep up with your studies because there are no tangible reminders.
If you’re ready to sign up for a program of study, it should be reiterated that it takes a great amount of responsibility and drive in order to enroll in distance learning programs. It’s almost like going to an actual college or university, but to the 10 th power. So, be sure that going to school is a true passion of yours. If you lack interest and forget to check with your professor at least every other day, your academic success rate may decrease significantly.
So, are you interested? Here’s how it works.
When you begin your search, make sure you look for red flags. For example, a red flag would be no mention of accreditation. Accreditation is very important because many employers will not take your education seriously if it doesn’t come from an accredited institution. Another red flag would be lack of affiliation. If the prospective online institution is not connected to an established college, university, or technical school, it may be a scam. Lastly, make sure that the online institution is well within your price range. More prestigious universities offer online classes, but, of course, these are very pricey.
Now that you’ve decided to receive an education online, you should already be reaping the benefits. Go ahead; take your laptop to the park while your children play on the monkey bars. Check in with your “class” and see if any new work is assigned. Or else go to “class” at 10 p.m. You may even work best at night.
As you can see, getting an education online can be the answer for a lot of overworked and stressed-out people from all walks of life.
Exit, problems.
