Although an old car with missing or ‘questionable’ parts may seem like a prime candidate for the junkyard, you may want to consider finding a place to donate cars. More and more people are starting to donate vehicles to charities and non-profit organizations. These organizations are able to take old cars and refurbish them, or use some of the parts to fix other vehicles.

Many of the charities that help people donate cars, arrange for the cars to be given away to someone in need. If you’re considering donating, here are some helpful suggestions. If you want to donate a car, you’ll have to do a little ‘investigating’ first. Most people do not donate too often, even if they’re thinking about it, because they don’t know where to start, or they think the process will be too difficult. Many charities encourage donors to make car donations, and have separate programs within the charity for the purpose of providing people with the cars. Non-profit organizations with specific causes (i.e. support groups for women or veterans) will often post requests, either on-line or at a physical location, for those interested in volunteering for the organization to donate. United Services Organizations (USO)

The USO specializes in providing services for the country military personnel, and is a non-profit organization. This organization supports recreational activities for active duty members of the military, as well as upholding and promoting the morale of soldiers. It is endorsed by both the Department of Defense and the President of the United States; the President has always served as the honorary chairman of the organization. This charity looks for people to donate cars in order to assist in the lives of military families who may be in need.

Donate cars, trucks, vans, boats or RVs to www.christcars.com to help local churches bring youth to Christ. The application process is simple and can be done online. All other paper work will be taken care of for you. Most proceeds go to local YFC chapters to benefit youth in local churches.

If any of these charities or groups interest you, be sure to get in touch with someone who can answer specific questions for you and tell you where to donate to charity. There is also a form to fill out when you donate a car, and most donations are tax-deductible. You will have to have a title for the car, and it may be possible for someone to pick the car up from your house if you’re not close to the actual charity. All old cars don’t have to go straight to the junkyard—fortunately, there are alternatives.
