Diet Plans? It’s the Latest Fad, Darling

Making the decision to take on temporary deprivation of food is never easy. The thought of sacrificing that banana split with extra nuts and whipped cream for clothes two sizes smaller than what you’re currently wearing may not seem appealing enough. But if the appeal to your vanity is not motivating enough, there is the health aspect that may persistently nag at the back of your mind. Being overweight is a step in the pathway to becoming obese. Diet plans could save your life.

While many of us may wish horizontal growth would stop after a certain age, science has yet to introduce that sort of revolutionary technology. All we are left with for diet plans are simple methods involving discipline and self-control. Dieting is not as easy as it seems. It is not as safe as people take it to be either. Therefore, before launching yourself on to any diet plan, always consult a dietician or physician.

Low Carb Diet

No diet plan has ever been as popular as this one. The low carb diet plan has come a long way since its introduction. This diet plan follows the discipline and belief that, by restricting intake of carbohydrates, one will lose weight. With carbohydrates gone from our life, this will prevent the “vicious carb cycle” from firing up – the theory that carbohydrate intake causes carb-addiction, carb-overeating, hyperinsulinemia, and thereby increases fat storage. The theory behind this is that because carbohydrates and fat are the main source of energy for our bodies, by restricting carbohydrates, our body will then turn to burning fat for energy. With our body burning away fat for energy, weight loss is successful.

Grapefruit Juice Diet

The thing about diet plans is: there’s just so many out there to choose from. One fun and interesting way to shed some unwanted weight is to try out the grapefruit juice diet. This diet plan has been around for decades, and if you like grapefruit juice it’s perfect for you. Another benefit of this diet is that you don’t have to starve yourself to lose weight.

According to the grapefruit juice diet, the more you eat, the more weight you will lose. There is a minimum amount of food you should eat, and after you’ve eaten the minimum you may continue eating until you are full, whatever the meal. The theory behind this diet plan is that the acid contained in the grapefruit juice will act as a catalyst to accelerate the calorie burning process. In this diet, foods that are high in fat or carbs (such as snacks, dessert, bread, and sweet potatoes) are restricted. However, you may double or triple your helpings of meat, salad or vegetables.

Low Sugar Diets:

For those constantly fluctuating on the sugar scale, there is a diet plan specially designed to control that rollercoaster ride. The hypoglycaemia or low-sugar diet holds to the theory that sugar, not fat, causes weight gain. Therefore, to achieve effective weight loss, one should eat according to the glycemic index. Red meat, poultry, and several types of fruit and vegetables are permitted in this diet plan.

As urged before, always consult a dietician or physician before getting on to any diet plans. By going this extra step, the selected diet plan may work more efficiently and effectively. Conducting your own research on the various types of diet plans is also important, so you can be equipped with the necessary knowledge beforehand. After you’ve done your research, you can always raise any questions or uncertainties with your dietician. While looking like a star may be everyone’s dream, we should always keep in mind the state of our health when dieting.
