A diamond is a great investment! Over the years diamonds have increased in value. But a diamonds is only a good investment if you get a good price on it. Some designer engagement rings can be way over-priced. It is nothing like a car in how once you take it out of the show room it loses its value; diamonds have never depreciated. You can always trade up a diamond and get the full purchase price back towards your new stone. A diamond is millions of years old already. A diamond is carbon that has gone through a great chemical and physical process of heat and force. It obviously has not lost value over this amount of time and it will still have the same value.
When buying a designer engagement ring you need to know how to care for it. Soaps, lotions and other everyday items can leave a hazy residue all over your diamond and setting, which will reduce the brilliance of the stone. There are jewelry cleansing products available at most jewelers that will clean the diamond and the setting. Another easy and homemade product that you can use to refine your diamond is to mix a bit of ammonia and water, apply this to the ring, and scrub it with an old toothbrush. All you have to do is scrub and rinse with luke-warm water and then dry it with a lint-free cloth.
Even if you do not wear your jewelry every day, you should still know how to treat your designer engagement rings. Diamonds and other stones can scratch each other easily if they rub together. This can damage the polish and the characteristics. It is a good idea to store your jewelry items in a soft jewelry case or cloth so that they do not become unnecessarily damaged. Be sure to keep them in a very safe place. Especially if you do not have jewelry insurance, the loss of valuable jewelry can be a very unpleasant experience and you can never replace some of the pieces.
When buying an engagement ring, make sure that you take into account your lifestyle and your clothing style. You do not want to get a very extravagant ring if you are typically dressed more casually.
If you are looking into buying designer engagement rings and you do not know the ring size to get a size 6 is suggested. This is the average size and is most in stock in most designer stores. After you surprise her with the engagement, most places will change the ring’s size free of charge if need be (please make sure they will do this before you buy the ring!).
