Childbirth can be a scary experience if you do not have enough information on the topic. There are many different options available to women. They can go to a hospital, have an at home birth with a mid wife or have your baby in a tub of warm water. Some women will even have to have a C-Section.
How to have a better childbirth experience
In order to have a great childbirth experience, it is helpful to create a birth plan. Decide before you are in the labor room what kind of childbirth experience you want. This will help your husband, the nurses and others helping with the birth know what you want and do not want. Because everyone is unique, it is important to know what will make you comfortable during childbirth. For example, I love music and I plan on having my favorite tunes playing in the background giving me encouragement. For other women it might be the sound of water that is comforting. Many women are opting to do childbirth in a large tub full of warm water. It can relax the body’s muscles and be more comfortable for the baby and mother.
List of questions to ask yourself for your childbirth plan:
- What kind of medicine do you want to take or not take?
- What position do you think will be most comfortable for you in childbirth?
- If you have to have cesarean, do want it a certain way?
- Do you want an episiotomy?
- Do you want an epidural?
These are just a few questions to get you thinking about what kind of childbirth experience you want to have. You have many options to consider when choosing where you want to give birth, whether at the hospital, at home or having a cesarean you will want to decide what is best for you. Sometimes you will not have a choice in terms of a cesarean childbirth. My mother did not choose it, it was a necessity. It may be the same for you or you may have more options available.
Discussing your concerns about childbirth with your care provider
Once you have answered all of your questions, list all of your concerns and take them to your doctor or midwife. They can help you by answering all of the things you are wondering about when it comes to childbirth. If you want to be technical, have your care provider sign your sheet of requests to make sure they are honored when you are in childbirth. Ask the people who will be helping you to read the requests you have.
Finding the right hospital for childbirth
Look at all of the different hospitals close to you and after calling them and seeing what insurance plans they accept, set up an appointment to see the ones you are most interested in. Tour the different facilities and find the one most appropriate for your childbirth experience. This will help you to narrow it all down and you can be more comfortable with your decision.
