What is cheap home insurance?
Cheap home insurance covers the loss of your belongings in case of fire, theft and certain other causalities. If your property must be replaced because it is damaged, destroyed or stolen, then your insurance will generally pay for part or all of the costs. If you own a house you are required to have homeowners insurance. If you are renting a house it is optional, but highly recommended. Cheap home insurance can help you if you are a renter.
What does cheap home insurance cover?
Cheap home insurance can protect you against liability lawsuits if someone is injured or whose property is damaged while on your property. Exact coverage and policy limits vary with different cheap home insurance coverage plans. Here are some events usually covered with cheap home insurance: fire, lighting, explosion, smoke, vandalism, theft (including check forgery and counterfeit currency), unauthorized use of credit cards, falling objects and bad weather elements. It also may cover frozen pipes, hot water heaters bursting, heating system and power surges breaking down. Other basics with cheap home insurance include: lock replacement, temporary repairs and removing debris. If you would like to have these covered and they are not part of your cheap home insurance coverage then let them know you want to add the extras. If you do live in a geographic region known to have floods, hurricanes and earthquakes, you may have to purchase protection separately with a different policy.
Money matters with cheap home insurance
With cheap home insurance the deductible is normally around $100 to $500 for personal property losses. Raising the deductible can also reduce the premium. This is very important to know when deciding what cheap home insurance you want. If you are insuring your belongings for the actual cash value then you will receive money depending on the depreciating value and wear and tear of your property items. If you purchased gym equipment 10 years ago for $2,000 then the actual cash value may only be $300. If you want more protection then this, look into investing in replacement costs instead of actual costs coverage as part of your cheap home insurance. With replacement cost you will receive the money it costs to replace the 10 year old gym equipment.
Limits on cheap home insurance
There are limits on the coverage you can receive for your home and your property. Despite having a policy limit, there is also a limit on the replacement of high value items. The premium you pay will determine the limits you choose. Typically a policy has limits on high value items and what will get replaced. Items requiring extra coverage are called riders. An example of some riders not included in your cheap home insurance are: waterbeds, businesses operated in the home, personal computers and office equipment, earthquakes, floods and hurricanes depending on geography. High value items are also included in a rider.
