Classic Bikini
These are generally the solid color bikinis, and they come in many different colors. Some of the more common colors are black, white, yellow, blue, red, pink and orange. Other colors are also available for this classic style of bikini. They have the classic style bottom that goes straight around the waist and covers most of the buttocks. You normally have your choice of under-wire or non under-wire top. The top generally covers the entire breast area and looks like a traditional bra. You can purchase enhancement top pieces if you desire. It’s a somewhat modest bikini.
French-cut Bikini
This bikini is characterized by a higher cut bottom. This is where the bikini bottom is cut to fit up and over the hip as it dips down in the front and back. It doesn’t go straight around the waist like the classical bikini. It is designed to expose more leg, tummy and buttocks area. The top can be the same as the classical bikini, but sometimes they offer the style that shows a little more chest area. The tops generally have a couple of different styles. You can have the style that ties around the neck and fastens in the back or you can have the style that simply fastens in the back without going up and over the shoulders. French-cut bikinis offer enhancement style tops as well.
Thong Bikini
This style of bikini originated in Brazil and is sometimes called the Brazilian style bikini. The tops are very much the same as French-cut bikinis, but the bottom exposes the buttocks a whole lot more. Just like putting a thong (sandal) on your foot and having that little piece separate your toes, the thong style bikini bottom separates your buttocks cheeks. It draws distinction to the cheek area. The slang term “riding up” is the best way to describe this bikini bottom. It too comes in a variety of colors and is considered the least modest of all bikinis.
Tankini
This is a newer style of bikini. It is really close to an actual one-piece swimsuit, but is still two distinguishable pieces. It’s called a tankini because the top fits like a tank-top. The top will normally cover the entire torso of a woman. The bottom is typically a classical cut style. Tankinis are by far the most modest of two-piece swimsuits, and they are becoming increasingly popular.

If you are a first time buyer, you should probably go to a swimwear store and try on the styles you like, just to make sure they fit and look right. Once you know styles and sizes, ordering over the Internet can save you time and money because bikinis can be expensive.
