If you are planning a vacation and want or need to fly, you should not have to spend an exorbitant amount of money on airfare. I would rather spend it on vacationing activities like souvenir shopping and wind surfing, for example. That is why there are services available to find you discount airfare ticket prices.
You can find pages of websites that claim cheaper airfare prices, and in reality there is no one best website. There are some services that are more famous than others, like HotWire, Priceline, Orbitz, and Expedia, but it does not mean other sites are not just as capable at finding great airfare prices.
Most of these airfare websites work generally the same, though each has its own method and sometimes different approaches to giving you the best deal possible. Here are a few examples:
- The most common form of cheap airfare ticket searching is plugging in exact leaving and returning dates, and ‘from’ and ‘to’ cities. This is the simplest way to find cheap airfare prices, but you can still save a decent amount rather than buying airfare through the airline itself.
- Flexible dates and times are very helpful tools that expand the airfare prices search by a day before your leaving date and a day after your returning date. It is also beneficial if you have an open time schedule for flights because airfare for “red-eye” flights are often times much cheaper than regular hours.
- Another flexibility option on some websites is when your schedule for your vacation is very open and the service can search up to a 30-day radius for the best possible airfare prices.
- Some websites also have a weekend vacation choice, in which you would state what month you would like a 3 day vacation. A “weekend” in flight terminology would consist of leaving on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday and returning Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday. The service would then scan the month of your choosing for the weekend with the best airfare.
- A different feature some websites have is the ability to name your own airfare price. You are able to sort of haggle with airlines for the best possible price by stating what you think would be reasonable and see if it flies. There are certain time constraints (for example, you must purchase the tickets within an hour or the price disappears) or other restrictions that might be connected with this feature.
- Sometimes websites are able to find incredibly low airfare prices because you do not find out what your flight times or airline is until after you purchase. This type of service may have time constraints as well.
Now that you know how all the different websites can work for you, you can explore your options and discover some great discounts. Finding cheaper airfare prices may take some time, but the savings are well worth it and you will have fun looking as well. So happy bargain hunting!
